Font Sizes
Many browsers now allow you to change the font size in the webpage by zooming in or out on the page. This capability is generally found on the browser's View menu item. Some browsers (or browser versions) allow you to zoom the font size only or set the font size. Some allow you to select "Actual Size" or "Reset" to accept the web page settings. The general case is :
- From your browser select View, select Zoom In or Zoom Out; or
- From your browser select View, select Zoom, then select Zoom In or Zoom Out.
-
Images
Antix has included and populated descriptive placeholders (alt attributes) to all images and will include this written description of the image in its text only site. Content should be usable/accessible with images “off” (disabled).
-
Links
As a general rule we do not open a link in a new window, allowing you instead to use your browser back and forward keys. You will be advised if a link does open in a new browser window.
Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target.
Links are written to make sense out of context.
The first link in every document is a "SkipNav"; it is to skip directly to what is considered the main section of the page (the content).
URLs are permanent whenever possible
-
PDFs
As with links, above, Portable Document Format, (PDF) files will be opened in the same window. You will be advised if a PDF does open in a new browser window. If you would like further information regarding reading a PDF document with a screen reader then please go to Accessibility web page.

Visual Design, Style Sheets and Layout
Antix site(s) use cascading style sheets for visual layout, and this website uses the XTHML 1.0 Transitional DOCTYPE.
Antix site(s) use a combination of fixed and relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers, but we are moving towards using fixed fonts and modern browsers now allow better zooming and control.
If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
Any information conveyed through the use of color is also available without color (i.e. text based).
If your browser is unable to download Antix’ style sheet then it will use the browser’s default style sheet.
You can use your own style sheets as follows:
- For Internet Explorer on Windows select Tools, then Internet Options, and then Accessibility. Select the checkbox that says, 'format document using my style sheet' then simply browse to your style sheet and click OK. You can also click on any or all 3 checkboxes to ignore colours, font styles or font sizes. See also the Microsoft Windows Accessibility page.
- For Mozilla Firefox you need to change your userContent.css file. You can find out how to do that here. You can also specify your own colours and fonts under Tools, Options, Fonts & Colors.
- For Safari select (Edit,) Preferences, Advanced, Style Sheet and select your stylesheet. You can also specify your fonts under(Edit,) Preferences, Appearance. For Opera select Tools, Quick preferences, Edit site preferences then Display, My style sheet and enter the location of your style sheet. You can also specify your own colours and fonts under Tools, Preferences, Webpages.
- For Netscape follow the directions for Firefox, above. You can also specify your own colours and fonts under Tools, Options, Fonts & Colors.
